If you are looking to start your very own DIY flooring project, or you are a flooring contractor looking to upgrade your tools but don’t know where to start, this article is for you.
As a Canadian flooring store, we have years of experience comparing and ranking different tools based on our own experiences, and feedback from consumers, just like you, who were looking to purchase quality flooring tools.
When you are fully prepared and have the right tools to help you along the way, flooring projects can be fun and rewarding. We offer a great variety of flooring-related building supplies and products. Here, we have compiled a starter kit, containing our top 6 tools for installing flooring and where you can buy them online.
Pneumatic Nailers & Staplers
If you are looking to save time on your flooring installation project, you will need a pneumatic nailer or stapler. Pneumatic flooring nailers and staplers use compressed air to shoot nails or staples into the working surface. These tools save tremendous amounts of time and energy compared to the alternative; manually hammering a nail into the wood, or stapling the carpet to the surface.
Below are a few of our top-rated pneumatic nailers and staplers. They can all be found online at our website:
PRIMATECH 145FCR 16GA “L” / 15.5GA “S” PNEUMATIC FIXED BASE COMBO ON ROLLER
PRIMATECH Q900A THE EDGE PNEU NAILER
PRIMATECH Q550ALR 18ga L PNEU ADJUST NAILER ON WHEELS
PRIMATECH P250ASR 15 ½ ga PNEU ADJUST STAPLER ON WHEELS
Adhesives
Wood flooring adhesives are another flooring MUST. The adhesives are required to bond the organic wood to the subfloor while maintaining the natural expansion and contraction of the wood. There are different types of adhesives for different flooring jobs, though there are also some multipurpose options that you may also wish to consider. The type of adhesive you choose will depend on a number of factors including the material of the flooring and subflooring, the location of the flooring project, and stresses that could affect the flooring.
Here are some of our adhesive customer favourites:
TITEBOND 7712, 771-Step Wood Flooring Adhesive 20 Oz Sausage
TITEBOND 7719A, 771-Step Wood Flooring Adhesive 3.5 gallon
Trowels
The trowel is the handheld tool that you will need for applying and smoothing your adhesive. Sounds easy enough, but there are actually quite a few different models that are intended for different application jobs. For flooring, you will typically want to use a square-notch or rectangle-notch trowel. It will create even mortar rows with spaces between the rows to allow the adhesive to flatten and level itself out. Depending on the substrates and the size of the substrates (ie; tiles), trowels will contain different notches of different sizes with different spacing. If you are unsure which trowel is best suited for your flooring project, contact our experts and they would be happy to help you out.
Here are some of the trowels you can find online at our flooring eshop:

There are different cutters for different sizes of tiles. Give us a call if you would like some help deciding which tile cutter is best for you.
